Wind Power Hits 20% In 2 States

Wind power provides 20% of the electricity in both Iowa and South Dakota, according to the American Wind Energy Association.  See www.awea.org/newsroom/pressreleases/Top-10_for_2011.cfm.

Given the large amounts of wind supplying Iowa and South Dakota, it may surprise some that the lights stay on in Iowa and South Dakota, and their electricity prices are below the national average.

AWEA also reports that wind turbine prices fell 33% from 2008 to 2010.  The machines cost less but produce more.  More for less is a famous recipe for success that both wind and solar technology is following.

George W. Bush set a goal for wind to provide 20% of US electricity. Iowa and South Dakota are the first two states to reach the national goal.
